Coffee Time

Thoughts and real-life moments

Remember the songs that made your heart race in high school? Or the ones you belted into a hairbrush in your bedroom? Maybe it was your first slow dance at a school sock hop. Music has a way of placing us right back in a moment, doesn’t it? Scent does the same.

I’m instantly transported when I hear an oldie. The girls and I used to blast 50s and 60s music on the drive to boys’ hockey games — singing, laughing, swooning over crushes. Good times. Big memories. Pure joy. Some of that joy came from Southern Comfort, I can’t lie.

Now the 80s are considered oldies too—can you believe it?

What gave you that ‘rush’ back then — that burst of instant joy?

Every single day I get a major burst of joy….around 7:20 pm knowing bedtime’s near — a moment worth clapping for.

Shooting back my magnesium is a far cry from shooting back Southern Comfort ‘chased’ by a cert.

I wouldn’t change a thing. At 7:20 pm, know I’ll be clapping.👏🏼

Pod Time

Worth-your-time listens

Mel Robbins sits down with Dr. Amy Shah, M.D. leading expert in the role nutrition plays in health, longevity, and hormone regulation.

Spin Time

What we’re listening to

Holly Cole is a Canadian jazz singer who grew up in Halifax, Nova Scotia, known for her sultry, emotive voice and eclectic approach to jazz.

Her style blends classic jazz standards with pop, cabaret, and contemporary influences, creating a modern yet timeless sound.

Black History Month

Grace that confronts history, not hides from it.

Most people sing “Amazing Grace” without knowing the man who wrote it.

John Newton was once a captain of slave ships. He participated in the very system that brutalized and dehumanized African people. That’s the hard truth.

But his story didn’t end there.

After a violent life-altering experience at sea in 1748, Newton began to confront who he had been and what he had done. He left the slave trade, became a minister, and later supported the fight to abolish it.

Black History Month isn’t just about celebrating triumph — it’s about telling the whole story. “Amazing Grace” is powerful because it was written by a man who faced his wrongdoing and changed direction.

It reminds us that transformation is possible — but it requires truth, accountability, and action.

I chose to include CeCe Winans’ rendition of Amazing Grace / My Chains Are Gone not to diminish the timeless brilliance of Amazing Grace, but to highlight the power that emerges when these two songs are woven together. Together, they deepen the message — grace not only received, but freedom fully claimed.

And now we gently turn the page

Meet the author 🖋

Michelle Harris-Genge lives smack dab in the middle of the woods in beautiful rural Prince Edward Island, cozied up in a rustic cabin Anne of Green Gables would totally envy.

Michelle enjoys biking, skiing and finding new ways to eat chocolate. She keeps putting off going to the gym, even though her body isn’t pleased with being scrunched over a computer screen for entire days on end and has revolted.

On most evenings, she takes off her bra and any jewellery she wore during her workday and cuddles up on the couch with a cup of cocoa. If it's winter and she’s feeling less lazy, she enjoys going for a snowshoe with her handsome husband. If it’s the other three seasons, she might be found playing frisbee golf with her family on the course her hubby built throughout the fields and trees of their property. In the summer, Michelle bikes as many clay roads as possible with her friends and has proudly biked (old school) the Prince Edward Island Confederation Trail tip to tip.

Michelle usually has a couple of books dog-eared somewhere around the house, and on stressful days has been known to binge-watch garbage-level television programs with absolute delight.

Michelle has penned three novels solo plus two more with her husband, Geoff. 'Life After Forty: How to be Happy When You Feel Like an Overripe Banana' is first leap into non-fiction. That is, unless you count work she’s done through her day jobs, in which case, she’s been writing non-fiction for decades.

Honoring Parents

Showing Up With Love

If you’ve been blessed with a strong, loving relationship with your parents, I truly believe this is the season to step up. Caring for them as they age isn’t just a responsibility — it’s a privilege. It’s rewarding in ways you can’t fully understand until you’re in it.

The conversations grow deeper, the roles soften, and the bond becomes something even more meaningful than it was before. Yes, it can be demanding, but it is also life-changing. You begin to see your parents not just as caregivers from your past, but as human beings who once carried so much for you. When you choose to show up with love and intention, you create memories that will stay with you forever.

One day, you’ll look back on this chapter not with resentment or regret, but with gratitude — grateful that you were present, that you stepped up, and that you honored the family bond that shaped you.

Cold Killer

Seeing Oregano Oil In Action

My brother, who is currently fighting cancer, and my mom — run down and tired — both started coughing. You know the kind… that unmistakable first sign of a cold, and it came on fast.

I called The Root Cellar to ask what the best quality vitamin C would be. The answer surprised me.

“Not vitamin C,” she said.
“What you need is oregano oil.”

Both my mom and my brother started it right away.
By the very next day, their cold symptoms were completely gone.

When something works this clearly, this quickly, and this gently, it’s worth sharing.

Gravity

Lift, Strengthen and Support Your Body At Any Age

A subscriber once wrote in after her daughter casually announced her butt was flat. At 55… whose isn’t? Gravity is real. But that doesn’t mean we can’t lift, strengthen, and feel good in our bodies.

If you’re looking for an easy, accessible way to do just that, check out Sydney Cummings on YouTube. I’m currently working through her Transcend series, but she has hundreds of free workouts — including plenty focused on glutes. You can follow a full program or simply search Sydney Cummings butt workouts and choose what fits your energy and time.

No gym required. Just movement, consistency, and a little fire left in us — exactly how we like it. 💪 And don’t forget your prayers 🙏🏻

Placemat Prophecies

Raise your hand if you ever tore up the floor at Myron’s to It’s My Prerogative in the 80s? Maybe you snagged a rose at the Tradewinds while Pump Up the Jam shook the walls. And that smoke—OMG, the haze was its own atmosphere! Then you hauled your cigarette‑soaked, B‑52‑scented self over to The Canton to see which zodiac sign you were vibing with that night.

For old times sake:

For todays sake:

What once felt like playful fun now carries a familiar warmth. As we enter the Year of the Horse, we’re called to awaken, move forward, and trust the fire within. Girls, we still have some fire left in us, don’t we?

Micellar Water

Thought I Didn’t Need It…Turns Out, I Do!

I see this in stores all the time but never really tried it—so I decided to do a little digging, and now I think I’m all in. Y’all know I’m obsessed with my Rose Water (you can grab it at any grocery store), so I thought I didn’t need Micellar Water… turns out, maybe I do.

Micellar water is a gentle, no-fuss cleanser that lifts away dirt, oil, makeup, and sunscreen — without stripping the skin. Think of micellar water as loosening the day, and cleanser as finishing the job. On lighter days, micellar water alone is perfectly enough.

BTW: Are you confused over the order to apply your skin products?

  1. Micellar water

  2. Cleanser

  3. Rose Water

  4. Toner

  5. Serums

  6. Eye Cream

  7. Spot Treatment

  8. Moisturizer

  9. Sunscreen (morning)

  10. Make up

Daily Skin Care

Because Hormones Matter

Why Non-Hormone (Mineral) Sunscreen Matters

Non-hormone-blocking sunscreens — often called mineral or physical sunscreens — use ingredients like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide to sit on the skin’s surface and reflect UV rays. These ingredients are widely recognized as effective and are less likely to be absorbed into the body compared to some chemical UV filters.

Using a broad-spectrum mineral sunscreen daily helps protect against sunburn, premature skin aging, and skin cancer, making it a simple, protective choice for long-term skin health.Foods that fuel

Winter Rebellion

A Gentle Refusal to Stay Stuck

There comes a point in winter when it’s no longer a season — it’s a personality — the stubborn women type — you know the kind!

By now, many of us are craving spring flowers, brighter evenings, and lighter colours. Even those who don’t usually struggle with seasonal blues may be feeling a quiet restlessness as winter lingers.

Winter wears us down slowly. These are not solutions — they’re reminders. Small proof that we’re still choosing, still noticing, still alive in the middle of it.

  • Buy your own flowers. No reason. No apology.

  • Wear white before May. Hell, wear white anytime.

  • Change the scent in one room and pretend you’re somewhere else.

  • Buy the fancy olive oil — the one you “save.” Start using it.

  • Rearrange the furniture like you’re moving out… but don’t.

  • Switch your hand soap to something that smells like a vacation.

  • Light a candle at noon. It’s fine.

  • Eat dinner off the good plates on a Tuesday.

  • Open a window for exactly one minute — just to prove you can.

  • Change your lipstick, even if you’re going nowhere.

  • Put on music from a different decade and commit to it.

  • Walk into a store you normally ignore and buy one small thing.

  • Change your coffee mug. It matters more than we admit.

  • Sit in a different chair and see what thoughts show up.

  • Cook one meal that doesn’t match the weather at all.

  • Fold laundry immediately and feel wildly accomplished.

BalderdashLIVING

Real words, made-up meanings, pure fun

A fun little challenge: see the word, read the definitions, then guess the made-up one. Can you tell fact from fiction?

Word: Lugubrious

Definition: Looking or sounding sad and dismal.

Definition: A formal term used in literary criticism to describe overly dramatic or exaggerated emotional writing.

One Last Thing

The very last thing to do at night — after prayers and a moment of gratitude, of course 🕊 — is to apply a good-quality hand cream made with natural ingredients. It helps keep hands soft and youthful, and there’s something quietly comforting about ending the day this way. A small ritual that signals it’s time to rest. very very last thing you should do at night (after prayers and gratitude meditation of course🕊) is put a good quality natural ingredient hand cream on. This keeps hands looking young and just makes you feel more relaxes and cozy.

Gratitude and Grace

A practice for every day living

This week, inspired by Amazing Grace, I’m holding the quiet power of grace in mind — the kindness we extend to ourselves, the small gifts life offers, and the ways we show up for aging parents or anyone in need. Pause, notice, and carry that gratitude forward, letting it ripple outward in small, meaningful ways.

Closing Intention

Words to carry forward

May we carry today’s gratitude forward, notice the small joys, and step lightly into what’s next — with kindness for ourselves, curiosity for the world, and a little extra fire in our hearts.
