Welcome my friend!

Let’s dive into what might be on the agenda! Just like any gal gathering, topics will vary but for the most part we are bound to cover (but not limited to) the following:

  • HEALTH AND WELLNESS discussion around healthy habits, easy recipes, mental health and self care practices that make us feel our best.

  • FITNESS MOTIVATION sharing tips on fitness routines, instructors, etc and who is doing what these days.

  • PERSONAL UPDATES catching up on empty nest, relationships and menopause (light hearted dive into this world of joy).

  • FASHION AND BEAUTY discussing latest trends, favorite products and personal style tips.

  • COFFEE TALK with me, Kimberly Mooney. In this segment I’m diving into one things I’ve learned this month. Now I know these might not be ground breaking revelations, but they’re little nuggets of wisdom or joy that have made life a bit brighter or easier. So grab your coffee (or tea) and let’s chat about this months ‘a-ha’ moments.

BUT FIRST coffee :)

It is not as high maintenance as it looks

Every morning, the first thing I look forward to is this little ritual that makes me ridiculously happy. It’s like a daily happiness boost!

I pick out a podcast to keep me company while I brew my coffee. Whether it’s Michael Singer dropping wisdom or some other inspiring voice, I love starting my day with good vibes and a clear mind. Plus, I treat myself to some quiet “me time” with a guided meditation while I sip my coffee—because who doesn’t need a little zen with their caffeine fix?

  • a fresh cup of brewed coffee- pour in blender. Add:

  • a splash of MCT oil

  • a scoop of collagen powder

  • flavored silk almond milk

  • blend and enjoy….oh, add a dash of cinnamon:)

So what did I LEARN this month?

I figured out that the only person who can pull you out of a slump is—you guessed it—yourself.

For the past year, I’ve been battling the blahs. I felt totally uninspired about life, even though nothing truly terrible was happening—clearly, I’m a blessed woman.

But why the blahs?

Turns out, I was dealing with a combo of menopause and empty-nest blues. I was running on my last unhappy nerve and, frankly, I was tired of my own negativity.

So, how did I turn things around?

Finally, I decided to get my body moving, and it seemed to shock my brain into a better mood. I bought a giant calendar and started jotting down every bit of exercise I did each day. Seeing my progress, even if it was just a few little squares filled with 30-minute workouts or walks, helped me stay motivated. And yes, some squares stayed blank—and that’s totally fine. I focused on celebrating my wins, no matter how small.

Be STRONGER than your excuses
Keep it simple

  Caroline Girvan

I never imagined I’d let exercise slip so far down my list of priorities, but here we are. I’ve been exercising daily since grade 6, for heaven’s sake, and now I’m heading into year 3 with a hit-or-miss workout schedule. I’m honestly shocked by how my lack of commitment, but thanks to Caroline, I’m back on track. So here’s my enthusiastic shout-out to myself: “I’m back baby…or at least getting there!!”

Now that I’m in my mid 50s—yes, it’s still hard to believe—I’ve realized that cardio needs to take a back seat to weight training. I’m not ditching cardio altogether, but I’ve learned that maintaining muscle mass is crucial as we age, especially post-menopause. That’s why I’m all in with the IRON SERIES program. It’s been a total game-changer for me, and the best part? You can find the entire program for free on YouTube. If you check it out, you’ll see those toned arms and lifted butt in no time.

I also want to highlight the amazing trainers here on PEI . With just a bit of research, you can find a certified trainer who’s perfect for your needs. I’m excited to share some of these incredible professionals right here on cynthiagraceLIVING in future newsletters. Stay tuned and get ready to be inspired!

When LIFE hands you LEMONS, ask for something higher in PROTEIN!

Peri & menopausal woman: ⬆️ protein PRONTO!

Getting enough protein can be a real challenge, but this is a fantastic quick breakfast to boost your intake—and it’s pretty tasty, too. Plus, you don’t even need to add milk!

  • sautee a generous handful of spinach/red pepper/onion in frying pan

    (3 grams of protein)

  • In a mixing bowl combine 2 large eggs (12 grams of protein)

add 2 tbsp or more of cottage cheese (5 grams of protein)

  • sprinkle with 2 tbsp of nutritional yeast (10 grams of protein)

  • I love adding fresh basil but you do you:)

NO NEED to love or even like cottage cheese:
    You CAN NOT taste it.

LIFE itself is a QUOTE

Wake up earlier. Be 1% better today.

YOU GOT THIS.

I don’t have to, I get to.

Sometimes we need reminders that we are blessed with another day. Do the task.

DO PEOPLE IN YOUR LIFE UPSET YOU?
This hack will change your thinking AND your relationships. For Real!

  • you can’t change what people say, do or think.

  • you can’t change their actions or their intention.

  • You can’t control their narrative.

  • You CAN choose to let go and ‘let them’.

  • You CAN choose peace for you and your relationships.

DID YOU KNOW

ASPIRIN 81 mg may help save your life if you think you are having a heart attack and is also the #1 doctor-recommended brand of low dose ASA for doctor-supervised long-term preventive therapy.

THE GIFT OF LIFE. Have a supply of these in your car, golf cart, office desk, bedside table, purse, etc.

Time is critical! In the event of a suspected heart attack, call 911 and chew two aspirin 81 mg tablets.

Aspirin works on STOPPING the clotting action. The anti-clogging action means blood can flow more easily giving you more time to seek further medical help.

I love my NATURAL HAIR because it is a GIFT that we black women have.

A moment with K’EZIAH COLLIE

Hey Ladies

So we all want at some point to be able to feel confident in our hair right? Whether it’s short, curly, wavy, coils or long it’s imperative that we have products, tools and resources geared towards the optimal health and longevity of our hair.

I want all of that and more for my hair, however, as a black woman living in PEI those goals are usually very hard to achieve. For example, I have very thick coily hair, so imagine my disappointment when I walk into a store and there is the smallest section of products for girls like me compared to the multiple aisles that cater to women of a straighter much looser texture.

Although the above is true, that doesn’t stop me from sharing with you how I achieve the best washing ‘go to’ that defines my curls and make them pop with some of my favorite products.

K’eziah Collie

STEP ONE
On freshly washed hair we are going in with a dime size amount of Shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie. After rubbing it through our hair, we are going to go in with a wide tooth comb to detangle our curls in sections.

STEP TWO
With a handful of Eco stylers aloe vera holding gel (green) we are then going back into those sections that we detangled and rake the gel through until our curls start to define.

STEP THREE
With a diffuser attachment on our blow dryer we are going to diffuse our curls. This helps with less shrinkage and more definition.

STEP FOUR
Finally, after all is said and done, I like to go in with a light oil. My favorite oil to use is mielle organic rosemary and peppermint hair oil.

And just like that, you’re all done.

STEP FIVE
Have fun embracing your beautiful curls.

Simple NUTRITIONAL ADVICE for better health with KATIE CURRIE R.H.N.

Nutritional tips for getting through peri menopause and menopause from holistic nutritionist, Katie Currie.

Increase B vitamins and Magnesium in your diet. Menopause is considered a “stressor” on the body. With all those hormonal shifts, these nutrients get used up quickly trying to keep things in balance. Some good sources of B vitamins are leafy greens, meat, fish, and poultry.

Magnesium is found in nuts and seeds like almonds, chia, and pumpkin seeds, as well as leafy greens, brown rice, and even dark chocolate! You can also speak to your doctor about supplementing with a high quality B complex and magnesium.

Increase your protein intake! This is so important, especially if you are working out. Protein is essential in maintaining muscle mass, which decreases as we age. It will also help to keep blood sugars stable, which plays a huge role in hormone health. Be sure you are getting about 1-1.2g of protein per kg of body weight each day. I usually tell people to aim for about 30 grams of protein per meal and 10 grams per snack. Some good sources of protein are meat, fish, poultry, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs, and tofu.

Reduce caffeine and alcohol intake. These substances can lead to blood sugar fluctuations which wreak havoc on your hormones! They will also affect sleep quality, and we all know how important and difficult it is to get a good night’s sleep! My advice is to have caffeine no later than noon time and limit to two caffeinated beverages per day.
