Feb. 13. 2025. My birthday.

Sitting. Waiting. Digging deep to not freak the eff out. One of my biggest fears is happening RIGHT NOW - may not be a big deal to you - but that’s what makes us all different — interesting let’s say 🤨

I always thought if I got stuck on a plane and not ā€˜let out’ I would effing freak. Well here I am — stuck on a plane — trying my goddamn hardest not to hyperventilate. For those of you who do not suffer from anxiety from time to time, move on and and judge not.

I, 100%, suffer from MAJOR claustrophobia (like you have no idea - I consider a public washroom an escape room) so this is quickly turning into a big test of all that I’ve studied, watched, and listened to. My body wants to fly the fuck out of this window but I can’t. Trapped. So instead, I’m writing to overcome a full blown anxiety attack that would and could terrify me worse than being trapped on a plane.

So now I breathe. In. Out. Watch others breathe. I’m rationalizing ā€œwe will be sitting here for over an hourā€. Well, we all know what that means — could be 3 hours or more. This is a head game and a mindfuck. But what I know is this — we are about 20 minutes in and I’m still breathing. It’s okay. Fight-or-flight in overdrive.

Oh, today is my 55th birthday. Maybe at 55 I’m suppose to actually start conquering my fears. Maybe this is preparing me for 2025 — I dunno, makes sense really.

What I do know, is that I’m doing OK in what I would normally deem PURE HELL. I’m inhaling calm baby. I got this. I’ll look at this as an exercise in control and remain calm.

This shit is only as scary as I let it be.

Breathe ya crazy bitch. Breathe.

I lived through the ordeal and learned: I can do hard things, face fears, and survive. No one’s cause of death is ā€œtrapped safely in a plane for an hour or so,ā€ but try telling that to my anxious mind. The real lesson? When panic hits, don’t believe the story in your head—focus on your breath and take action.

āœ… Do something: Write, move, or simply count.

What’s spinning šŸŽ¶

The Music PEI Awards have 26 categories and one of those categories is Maritime Electric Music Video of the Year. Nick Doneff (PEI singer songwriter) said this when referring to the video of the year nominations, ā€œThis is going to be better than watching the Tyson fight.ā€

Why?

My sons, Josh and Sam Langille (Absolute Losers), are one of the bands nominated for Video of the Year — are going head-to-head with their own bandmate, friend, stepbrother and my stepson, Max (Lawrence Maxwell)!

Their video (Absolute Losers), Bender, is a high-energy post-punk anthem of rebellion and chaos, while Lawrence’s What You See in Me is a heartfelt country romance—two wildly different styles, but both packed with talent.

No matter who wins, I’m beyond proud of all three of them and the music they bring to our lives! ā¤ļø

Sharon Quann is recognized as a trailblazer in the spa and aesthetics industry in Prince Edward Island, with a 30-year tenure in the field. Meeting Sharon at her spa in Summerside, PEI was an absolute pleasure. I spent the most incredible few hours with her, experiencing a treatment that far exceeded my expectations. Q: Sharon, for those who may have not heard of the Quanessence Skincare can you introduce yourself and what Quanessence is?

I am the President/CEO of Quannessence Holistic Skincare. We are proudly 100% Canadian, Women owned and powered. Our formulations are created in Summerside, PEI, and we make, fill, package, and ship them out across Canada from our facility. We are a Professional Skincare provider where we sell to Aestheticians and Spa’s who perform Quannessence treatments and sell Quannessence Skincare to their clients.

Q: As mature women, what should we never skip in our skincare routine? What might we add into our routine?

All Healthy Skin begins with Hydration, so I can’t stress enough the importance of drinking lots of good water with fresh lemon and a dash of sea salt when you can. Also, exfoliating once a week to remove dead skin cells will ensure that your products absorb much more readily into the skin for increased results. It is also super important to use natural and non-toxic ingredients. Having a daily Skincare Ritual of a Cleanser, Toner, Serum, and Moisturizer helps to support healthy skin and a healthy daily routine.

Q: Within the hour we talked on the phone, I was so inspired not only by your philosophy of your skincare line but by your knowledge of toxins and simple changes/choices we can make to have the healthiest skin/body. What should we be including in our routine or stopping?

One of the most significant food items we should eliminate from our diet is processed sugar and sugar substitutes. These are major causes of inflammation and premature aging, rosacea, and adult and teenage acne.

Q: Your passion is not limited to skincare. Can you speak to your philosophy of treating the body, mind and spirit?

Peace and calming comes in with the Breath. Allowing yourself the time every day to stop and take 4 deep breaths drawing mana (life force) in and visualize exhaling the breath and life force into the heart. The breath grounds me and allows me to expand my thoughts to a higher level, as well as live in the moment with less stress and anxiety.

Q: Can you share your approach to leadership and your role as President/CEO of Quannessence Skincare and QuannSpa?

My approach as a CEO is Servant Leadership. I operate my business using the reversed Pyramid model, where I am on the bottom, holding each of my team members up, allowing them to thrive in their roles. This leadership style has fostered a supportive environment for each of us while allowing us to grow together with our unique gifts and talents. We are all lifelong learners and heart-centred people who want the best for each other and our customers.

Q: Your spa services offers face-mapping, can you tell us more about this?

Breakouts, rashes or inflammation on the face can indicate what is happening inside the body, perhaps an issue with an internal reflection to one or more organs or even an allergy to some foods. Much like Reflexology, Face Mapping tells the story of the internal body. 

Q: You have a deep connection with your spirit guide, source, higher self, or God—whatever one chooses to call it based on their own beliefs. For someone seeking to strengthen this connection and shift away from fear, resentment, anger, and worry, where would you suggest they begin? It’s a big question, but what are some practical steps we can take to cultivate inner peace?

I authentically live by the universal laws of oneness. We are all one and have Christ's consciousness in us. I do my best every day to be good and do good in the world around me. I share this loving light with everyone who crosses my path. We are the light this world needs, and we need to shine brightly in the world around us. All change begins with our journey. Once we are comfortable with our personal transformation and selves, we should only then share our pure light of love to help others. Everyone’s path is unique to them, and my path brought me inward to heal, but my best recommendation is to follow your heart’s intuitions.

Q:  I absolutely loved my treatment with you—it was truly unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. I felt so deeply cleansed, and not just my skin and face. I walked away feeling light, carefree, grateful and hopeful in a way that’s hard to put into words. Can you share with our readers what exactly you did that day beyond just the facial?

A Bold and Spicey Discovery!

This changed my life! Ok I’m being dramatic but seriously, it is UNREAL!

Korean Red Pepper Paste (Gochujang) makes the most amazing sauce to serve with marinated meat (or vegetarian option) with rice and lettuce….read on for details!!

Sauce:

  • 2 Tbsp Gochujang (Korean Red Hot Pepper Sauce)

  • 1 Tbsp vinegar

  • 1 Tbsp real maple syrup

  • 1 Tbsp sesame seeds

  • 1 clove chopped garlic

I made two smashing hit Bulgogi recipes — Vegetarian (for me) and Beef (for family), but to simplify it significantly:

  • marinate thinly sliced good quality steak or meat alternative overnight or a few hours (fry when ready to prepare meal)

  • prepare sticky rice

  • slice fresh garlic cloves

  • kimchi

  • lettuce cups or just big lettuce leafs

Put a little serving of everything in the lettuce cup, top with the amazing sauce (recipe above) roll up and voila—Enjoy!
