Thoughts, musings, and real-life moments
This might sound a little downer—but I promise it’s not. I love life. I laugh a lot, joke with my hubby, try to make good choices, and create meaningful memories. However…
Every once in a blue moon, I catch myself thinking: What is the point of day in and day out? Wake up… makeup on, work, stress-shop for groceries, make dinner, clean, makeup off, sleep… repeat. Rinse. Repeat.
I sat in my weirdness a little too long, so I turned on a podcast for my drive. They said we’re only here for a blip (to learn lessons, to become more God-like, to be of service, etc.)… then after death comes infinity.
I did a full-on, exaggerated moan and groan:
“OMG… infinity… That is SOOO loooooonnnngggg.”
I laughed out loud at myself—because honestly, forever feels like a lot.
Life is good. Really good. And it’s flying by. I turn 56 next week, which math tells me means I’m officially beyond middle age—basically rounding the corner to third base. So I’m choosing to embrace even the monotonous days with joy, bliss, and gratitude. ’Cause honestly, life in itself is pretty great.
For now, today is enough—
infinity can wait.

What we’re listening to
Hailing from Attleboro, Massachusetts, Reyome has been honing their skills as a musician for the past six years. They relocated to Prince Edward Island in 2016 to pursue music at a post-secondary level at Holland College. Since their arrival in Canada, Reyome has been in-demand as a vocalist and session musician in a multitude of genres. Reyome’s debut single Cross My Heart was recorded and produced by Erin Costelo and Colin Buchanan.

Reyome has been nominated for an ECMA this year.
With inspiration from the likes of Aretha Franklin, Janis Joplin, and Tracy Chapman, they bring old school vibes to the new times.
Black History Month
Stand Up For Freedom
Black History Month is a time to honour stories of courage, resistance, and unwavering faith — and Harriet does exactly that.
This powerful film tells the true story of Harriet Tubman, an enslaved woman who escaped and then risked everything to lead countless others to freedom via the Underground Railroad. Heartbreaking and deeply inspiring, it offers a window into history that feels urgent and necessary.
The film’s anthem, “Stand Up” by Cynthia Erivo, is unforgettable. More than a song, my students prove this to me every day this month. It is pure strength and courage — a reminder of the strength that rises when we choose to stand for what is right.
Educational, emotional, and beautifully made, Harriet (netflix) is a meaningful watch this Black History Month.

Every year, I teach my students about African American spirituals and the coded songs of the Underground Railroad. In my classroom, kids hang on every word, sing along and move to the music. Even today, classes came in eagerly asking for “musical history….please please!”. I’m in awe of my students’ empathy, curiosity and compassion.
Warms my heart every time….even the day I did a quick recap at the beginning of next class:
“Now what is Harriet known for and why is she a hero?”
“Because she smiled really big and invented scat singing.”
“No dear, that was Louis Armstrong.” ❤️

Push For Mental Health
Strength for a cause
The Canadian Push-Up Challenge is a nationwide movement that turns simple daily push-ups into a powerful act of support for mental health. Each February, participants aim to complete 2,000 push-ups over 22 days—symbolizing the approximate number of lives lost to suicide in Canada each year—while raising awareness and funds for mental health programs across the country.
You can join solo or with a team, modify the exercises to suit your ability, and track your progress online. It’s not about perfection—it’s about showing up, starting conversations, and reminding ourselves that every small effort can help create hope.

Push Up Challenge 2026
Push up. Pause. Repeat.
Green Sally Up has roots in African American work songs sung by enslaved people, where rhythm carried culture, resilience, and community. Over generations it became a children’s jump-rope rhyme, then reemerged globally through Moby’s ‘Bring Sally Up’—eventually evolving into a shared physical challenge used in military and athletic training worldwide.
In honour of Black History Month AND the Canadian Mental Health Challenge, this is how we have been ending our music classes. The kids are really embracing the sensitive history and the physical challenge.
I double dare you to give a try.
As of today, I have successfully reached 1 min. 50 sec.
Slide. Plank. Repeat.
From “Green Sally Up” to the Cha Cha Slide Plank Challenge, Black rhythm continues to shape how we move and challenge our bodies. While the Cha Cha Slide is a modern creation by Black artist DJ Casper, it carries forward a tradition of music that brings people together through movement—turning rhythm into strength, connection, and joy.

Problems In The Bedroom?
I can’t even count the times I’ve kicked my husband out of bed. 🤬 🤬 🤬
No, not because we’re arguing—because the sheets are so wrinkled I CAN NOT HANDLE IT!! Sheets never seem to stay tight, drives me out of my mind in seconds.
So we made a visit to Sleep Country to rectify our bedroom situation.
And here is what the sleep specialist at Sleep Country had to say:
If your sheets constantly loosen over time and a wrinkle under your feet, there’s a simple fix: clips. Dollarama or Dollar Store—people swear by them. Me? I can’t wait. My neurodivergence kicks into overdrive at the slightest wrinkle under my feet. I know I’m not alone here…am I?
For anyone using cotton sheets—especially Egyptian cotton—beware. They can tug at your hair while you sleep. She highly recommended Blissy silk pillowcases. HOWEVER, they are crazy expensive! Good Housekeeping compared pillowcases and prices, find out what they had to say and choose what best suits your budget and needs.
Quick myth-buster: higher thread count does not automatically mean better sheets. It usually just means they won’t breathe, and you’ll be hotter than ever. An 1800-thread-count sheet isn’t “better” than a 500-thread-count bamboo sheet of decent quality—it’s just…suffocating.
If you want to get really nerdy about it, Good Housekeeping lays it all out in Does Thread Count Really Matter? Here’s What Good Housekeeping’s Test Reveals.
Salon-Quality For Less
This just in from a specialist who recently appeared on The Social.
In last issue, I shared how my hairdresser strongly recommended adding a deep-conditioning mask to my Sunday-night routine. I’m three weeks in, and I can honestly say it’s made a noticeable difference—my hair feels softer, shinier, and healthier.
TV stylist and fashion expert Erica Wark recently shared that one of her go-to haircare lines is L’Oréal Paris Elvive, available at Shoppers Drug Mart. She uses the Elvive heat protector and notes that the Elvive Hair Conditioning Mask is very comparable to Kérastase—without the high price tag.
Adding to the buzz, stylist Jason Lee also highly recommends the L’Oréal Paris Elvive Glycolic Gloss Leave-In Serum for incredible shine. Sounds like Elvive might be well worth a visit to Shoppers or amazon.

Magnetic Energy
The Calmi ring is suddenly everywhere—on feeds, in conversations, and quietly on a lot of hands. I’ll admit, I was skeptical at first (wellness trends tend to do that), but the reviews are rolling in and they’re surprisingly strong. Minimal, discreet, and promising a little calm in a chaotic world—consider my curiosity officially piqued.
Some refer to this as the ‘menopause ring’
The Calmi Ring redefines wellness with its magnetic and acupressure therapy. Users praise its sleep-enhancing and stress-reducing benefits, making it a standout accessory for health-conscious individuals.

Cleansed By Snow
A quiet winter ritual for fresh beginnings
Snow washing is exactly what it sounds like: using fresh, clean snow to naturally cleanse fabrics and refresh energy. Long before washing machines, people laid blankets, rugs, and clothing over snow, gently rubbing and shaking them out. The cold helps lift dirt and odours, while the snow absorbs what no longer belongs.

Snow washing isn’t just practical.
It’s symbolic.
It’s about letting winter do a little of the work for us.
About releasing heaviness.
About trusting that simple acts can create real change.
Bits of Brilliance
• Dry brush before your shower, not after — it signals your lymph system when it’s most responsive.
• Stand on one leg while brushing teeth — balance training for future fall prevention in under 2 minutes.
• Cold hands = hold something warm, not gloves — warming your core first regulates circulation faster.
• Morning sunlight beats supplements — 5–10 minutes outside resets hormones better than vitamin timing.
• Tight jaw? Press tongue to roof of mouth and hum — instant vagus nerve calm.
• Apply face oil on damp skin, not dry — it seals hydration instead of sitting on top.
• Your neck ages faster than your face — cleanse it before makeup removal, not after.
• Mascara smudge hack: Powder lashes before mascara, not after.
• Lip balm works better overnight if you lightly exfoliate with a warm cloth first.
• Hands tell your age sooner than face — SPF them every time you drive.
• Clean mirrors with cold water, not warm — fewer streaks, better evaporation.
• Microwave smell fix: Heat lemon peel + water for 60 seconds, wipe while steamy.
• Dust first, vacuum last — gravity always wins.
• Shower curtain mold? Toss it in washer with two towels — friction does the work.
• Open windows for 10 minutes daily, even in winter — indoor air can be 5x dirtier than outside.
